Southern Gate Tower

Travel through the Han, Sui, Tang, and Song dynasties, city walls of Liuzhou had been rebuilt and relocated several times. In the fourth year of Hongwu (1371 AD), the rammed wall was rebuilt and the city was widened. In the 12th year of Hongwu (1379 AD), the rammed earthen wall was changed to a brick wall.

The city wall, in the eyes of the general public, is only thick, heavy, and rustic, so unglamorous that there is even nothing to say. But it is still a solidified poem, a silent music, which was and will still be carrying out countless messages.

The city wall, too, was a very dear existence to the people of the past. The Book of Changes stated, that "An earth dunned with benevolence, so it could be loved." It means to live on a peace land, so that human beings can know how to love each other.
